The Korea-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Monday hosted a reception in honour of Kim Ji-Joon, newly appointed ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Bangladesh, at Hotel Amari in the capital, said a press release.
Foreign affairs secretary (bilateral) Md Nazrul Islam was present as a guest of honour.
At the event, envoy Kim Ji-Joon presented ‘Certificate of Merit,’ awarded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, to Shahab Uddin Khan. The certificate was signed by Cho Hyun, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea.
The honour was conferred in recognition of Shahab Uddin Khan’s outstanding contribution to strengthening economic cooperation, promoting bilateral trade relations between Bangladesh and the Republic of Korea, and supporting the diplomatic activities of the Republic of Korea.
On behalf of KBCCI, commemorative crests were also presented to Kim Ji-Joon and Md Nazrul Islam in appreciation of their valuable contributions to fostering stronger Bangladesh-Korea relations.
In his address, KBCCI president Shahab Uddin Khan reaffirmed the chamber’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and the Republic of Korea.
Welcoming the newly appointed ambassador, he expressed his confidence that ambassador Kim’s tenure would usher in a new chapter of enhanced bilateral relations and deeper economic partnership between the two friendly nations.
In his keynote address, Kim Ji-Joon remarked, ‘Bangladesh has the potential to achieve, in an even shorter period, the level of economic development that the Republic of Korea attained over the past 70 years.’
He emphasised that by learning from Korea’s development experience and avoiding the mistakes made along the way, Bangladesh could accelerate its own path toward sustainable economic growth.
He further underscored the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, technology transfer and joint ventures to foster long-term economic prosperity for both countries.
The reception was also attended by ambassadors and high commissioners from various countries, senior government officials, members of diplomatic corps, prominent business leaders and members of the KBCCI.
