Korea-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KBCCI) organised a tree plantation programme at Cumilla Economic Zone today (1 October), highlighting environmental responsibility and sustainable industrial growth.

South Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh Kim Ji-joon and KBCCI President Shahab Uddin Khan inaugurated the programme at the economic zone in Sonachar, Meghna, Cumilla. KBCCI Adviser and Meghna Group of Industries (MGI) Chairman Mostafa Kamal led the event, according to the press release.

Guests travelled in a convoy from Dhaka and were welcomed at the economic zone by Mostafa Kamal.

“We are honoured to host our Korean friends and the members of KBCCI,” he said.

Participants planted saplings at a designated site within the industrial zone as part of the chamber’s commitment to environmental protection.

“Every sapling planted here is a promise to future generations,” Kim Ji-joon said.

Shahab Uddin Khan said the programme demonstrated that “economic progress and environmental protection must go hand in hand”.

Participants also visited trees planted in 2024 and toured the economic zone’s facilities.

Senior officials from the South Korean embassy and business leaders from both countries attended. Bangladesh Enterprise Institute President Ambassador Farooq Sobhan joined as the special guest.

The programme also included a commemorative photo session and an informal exchange of views among Korean and Bangladeshi participants.

“Industrial growth should be such that the land remains greener than we found it,” Mostafa Kamal said.

He expressed hope that the trees would stand as a symbol of the enduring partnership between the two countries.

KBCCI said it hoped the initiative would encourage more businesses to participate in greening efforts and further strengthen friendship and cooperation between South Korea and Bangladesh.
