The Korea-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Thursday organised a tree plantation programme at the Cumilla Economic Zone at Sonachar, Meghna in Cumilla, said a press release.
Kim Ji-joon, ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Bangladesh, and Shahab Uddin Khan, president of KBCCI, inaugurated the programme.
‘We are honoured to host our Korean friends and the members of KBCCI,’ he said upon welcoming guests at the Cumilla EZ.
The guests then planted saplings at the designated site within the industrial zone, reflecting KBCCI’s commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable industrial growth.
Kim Ji-joon said, ‘Every sapling planted here is a promise to future generations.’
Shahab Uddin Khan said that the programme demonstrated ‘economic progress and environmental protection must go hand in hand.’
The participants also visited the trees planted in 2024 and toured the facilities of the economic zone.
Senior officials of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and business leaders from both countries attended the programme. Among them was ambassador Farooq Sobhan, president of the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute, who attended as a special guest.
The rest of the day included an informal exchange of views among the Korean and Bangladeshi participants. There, Mostafa Kamal said, ‘Industrial growth should be such that the land remains greener than we found it.’
He expressed hope that the trees planted would stand as a symbol of the enduring partnership between the two countries.
